Technology

Upgrading and expanding imaging systems are an ongoing priority and are essential to all areas of our mission. State-of-the-art equipment improves diagnostic accuracy and procedural outcomes, improves efficiencies, improves patient safety and comfort, and enhances teaching and research.

CT systems

Our CT systems include:

  • GE Lightspeed 16-slice
  • GE Volume CT 64-slice
  • Siemens Somatom Definition™ AS
  • Siemens Somatom Definition™ Force

There is a dedicated CT procedure suite with the Siemens Somatom Definition™ AS scanner. This versatile 40-slice scanner is used for a range of image-guided percutaneous interventions, offering multiplanar fluoroscopic reconstruction and merged 3D/real-time imaging.

MRI systems

Our MRI systems include:

  • GE Discovery™ MR750 3T
  • GE Explorer 1.5T
  • Siemens Aera 1.5T
  • 2 Siemens Skyra 3T

In addition, the department maintains a Philips Achieva 3T research MR system used in the Advanced Imaging Center.

Interventional radiology equipment

The Interventional Radiology Section has four angiography suites. The department also has a minor procedure suite with ultrasound, a dedicated PICC room with C-arm run by vascular access nursing service, and one full-time interventional CT suite. There is a second CT interventional CT suite used primarily for diagnostic scans and overflow of procedures.

The angiography suites include:

  • Phillips Azurion biplane system
  • Phillips Azurion single plane system
  • Siemens Artis single-plane system
  • Siemens Axiom Artiszee biplane system

A new Phillips Azurion room was installed in 2020 and 2021 with advanced Interventional Oncology capabilities. All angiography suites have ultrasound as well. Vascular Surgery, Neurosurgery and Neurointerventional Radiology also use the angiography suites for procedures.

Nuclear imaging equipment

The Nuclear Imaging Division utilizes 4 scanning systems:

Ultrasound imaging equipment

The Ultrasound Imaging Section operates 6 exam rooms at the 3S location and 2 in the 5M OB-GYN clinic location with the most state-of-the art imaging available on Philips EPIQ & GE Voluson systems.

Mammography and breast imaging equipment

Mammography screening and diagnostic studies are conducted on Hologic 3Dimensions™ Mammography System units. Biopsies are performed using the Hologic Affirm® Breast Biopsy Guidance System. This advanced system allows a faster and more comfortable patient experience during a core breast biopsy since it uses a tomosynthesis guidance system and allows the patient to sit comfortably while it is performed.

Philips Epiq 7 high-resolution ultrasound scanners are dedicated for breast imaging. Breast-MR exams and interventions utilize 3 Tesla MR units, a Sentinelle™ Breast MR Auxiliary Table with 8-channel coil array and Philips DynaCAD breast MR image analysis system.

  • GE Infinia Hawkeye Gamma Camera
  • Siemens Biograph Vision PET-CT
  • Siemens Intevo Excel SPECT-CT
  • Siemens Symbia T6™ SPECT-CT
